ZMA is a popular supplement used by bodybuilders and athletes to improve testosterone levels, strength and recovery. ZMA is a specific combination of zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6. The idea behind this supplement is that most athletes and bodybuilders are deficient in these three nutrients and so supplementing with them will improve your strength and performance.
Intense exercise and stress can often lead to mineral loss and this is one of the main reasons why athletes can benefit from ZMA. Because zinc is involved in the production of testosterone, the idea is that by supplementing with zinc, the athlete will produce more testosterone which leads to increased strength and recovery from the stress of exercise. ZMA provides you with zinc, magnesium and vitamin b6 in the most absorbable form. Magnesium is involved in muscle contractions and is involved in the sleep process. ost people report that they generally sleep better and deeper when supplementing with magnesium.
If you are an athlete under considerable stress or if you work out regularly then you may be deficient in zinc and magnesium and so ZMA might help you improve your strength and sleep quality. ZMA is a useful supplement but also one that I would say was fairly non essential for most people. It is definitely worth experimenting with ZMA and I would recommend cycling it for a month or so to see how it works for you. You certainly shouldn’t expect any miracle results from ZMA but for people that are deficient in zinc and magnesium it might be a supplement worth trying.
