Bulk Up On A Budget

Eating healthy and building muscle can be expensive but it doesn’t have to be. By its very nature the healthy bodybuilding diet tends to be pretty boring and generally revolves around eating the same things day in day out which is something we can use to our advantage. One of the hardest things about following a healthy bodybuilding diet is that we need to eat so much food and eat so often. A typical fitness model or bodybuilding would usually consume between eight and ten meals a day as opposed to the typical three a day. A diet of junk food and frozen food may be cheap but it will destroy your body and leave you feeling terrible. Don’t be tempted to eat junk because it’s cheap. This article will show you how you can eat healthy on a budget.

Buy everything in bulk

A healthy bodybuilding diet, if nothing else, is extremely predictable. The staple foods that make up a healthy diet should always be bought in bulk to save you money. Things like brown rice, oatmeal, eggs and protein powder can be bought at a substantial discount if you buy in bulk and you should do so whenever possible. You quite often see chicken breast for sale at a discount when bought in bulk and this is a wise move because meat is likely to be your most costly outgoing.

Buy protein powder in bulk

I get through a huge amount of protein powder each month and if I were to buy it in the shop it would end up costing me a small fortune. The best solution is to buy protein power in bulk. I usually buy unflavored whey protein in bulk at a substantial discount. You can pick up about 5kg for around £35 here in the UK.

Buy own brand alternatives

Buying the brand name makes little sense nowadays when supermarkets sell their own brands at a considerable discount. You should always try and find the supermarket brands when possible. Over here in the UK you can easily pick up a months supply of oatmeal for less than £2.

Avoid eating out

Eating out at restaurants or grabbing food when on the go is something that will seriously affect your monthly food budget so it is best avoided by planning ahead. Whenever possible always be prepared and bring food with you when you are out and about so that you don’t get stung by the high mark ups at shops and restaurants.

Keep it simple

One of the best ways to save money is to actually stick to the most basic of foods possible. The more you add flavorings and condiments to your food the more the costs build up. Try and stick to basic foods with high nutritional value to save money.

You don’t need many supplements

As long as you have a good diet then supplements aren’t going to make that much difference to your overall results and will probably double the amount of money you spend each month. The only supplements you really need are a good protein powder and a multivitamin. The money that you waste on supplements would be much better spent on buying real food which will do far more for your bodybuilding efforts than the latest overpriced amino acid supplement.

Even in the current economic climate, you can still find ways to eat a healthy bodybuilding diet and not exceed your weekly food budget.
