GABA Supplement

Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) is produced naturally but it can be taken as a supplement by athletes mainly for its sleep inducing and growth hormone increasing effects. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter and used as a kind of calming agent for the brain.

The main benefit for athletes using GABA seems to be that it can really help to improve the quality and duration of sleep. Sadly GABA is becoming increasingly difficult to get hold of in many countries but you should be able to find it somewhere online.

Many bodybuilders take GABA prior to a workout in order to boost growth hormone levels which aid recovery, promote muscle growth and help lower body fat levels. Because GABA is an amino acid, there are no real side effects although I experienced, and I think some other people reported this as well, a slight tingling sensation in my face if I take too much of it. Also be aware that you should probably cycle it’s usage to be safe and take a break from using it after about a month or so to prevent dependence on it. Generally it is a safe supplement for healthy people and GABA can definitely help you sleep better and relax.

GABA is a great supplement to try if you can get hold of it and from experience it does seem to help with a deeper sleep and can help stop you waking up too often during the night. In fact after writing this article I just might go and see if I can find some for myself.
